About the Project and the Team

The Gorbeh children’s app for learning Farsi is an exciting and interactive tool designed to introduce young learners to the beautiful Farsi language and culture. With engaging activities, colorful visuals, and fun games, these apps create an immersive and enjoyable experience for kids who are interested in learning Farsi.

The original three Gorbeh apps were funded in the UK  in 2015-2016 by Dr Ali Sattaripour, who had founded The Persian Language Foundation. The remit of PLF was to provide high-qualtiy Farsi teaching materials online. 

 

Dr Sattaripour had come across Leyla Pope’s first app aimed at teaching Farsi through games to children. He then commissioned Leyla to produce further games for children. 

Sadly Dr Sattaripour passed away suddenly and the further development of children’s games was paused. The Persian Language  Foundation subsequently partnered with The Iran Heritage Foundation and did not prioritize producing online tools during this time.

 

This partnership ended in 2024 and The Persian Language Foundation has now partnered with The British Institute of Persian Studies. There is a renewed drive to create more games to teach children Farsi. 

Amir hears about the apps from his Ameh and reaches out to Leyla to see if there is a possibility to bring the team back to add more to the world of Gorbeh!

 

The team has consolidated the 3 previous apps and made them lighter weight and now we are ready to gauge appetite within the diaspora for more games!
